AnnotationThe dynamics of a thick rod on a rough plane is considered. A force is applied to the center of the rod causing it to move at a constant speed. At the initial moment, the rod is at rest and perpendicular to the line of action of the force. In the experiments carried out, a change in the angle between the rod and the thread transmitting the load was detected, alternately in positive and negative directions. It is shown that if we consider the distribution of the normal load to be uniform, then this effect is impossible for any friction law. As an explanation, it is proposed to use a dynamically consistent model of dry friction, in which the center of pressure lies in the front part of the rod (in the direction of movement), which leads to the occurrence of a moment that turns the rod.
